WELCOME TO november… 

There are now only eight weeks until Christmas. This reality may induce mixed emotions, from pure panic (me) to huge excitement (also me). It definitely means it’s time to start feeling festive – ’tis now the season of that steep incline in social events and that slightly odd but inevitable compulsion to see, and celebrate with, everyone you know and love one more time before Christmas. As ever, our aim is to be at your side for every culinary need through this busiest of times. Last-minute entertaining? Whip up our dinner party in an hour (page 69). Party planning? Helen McGinn has your back on drinks (page 37) – and when it comes to canapés, we’ve done the thinking and planning ahead too (page 77). If it’s a roast you yearn for during these wet and windy days, look no further than page 41. And finally, if you’re a planner (or think you might want to become one this year), you’re in luck: everything you need to make life simpler over the next couple of months can be made (or bought) now and put in your freezer for later (page 87).
